Dr. Naraporn Somboonna has joined a faculty of Science at Chulalongkorn University since 2010, and her researches focus on health and environmental microbiota, microbiome, and development of genetic-based diagnostics. Her microbiome researches comprise database and bioinformatic understanding of microbial communities in diverse niches from coral reef, marine, soil, to humans; applying to biotic-abiotic parameter associations and specific characteristic prediction; and developing with collaborators for automated pipelines.

Her development in genetic-based diagnostics comprise development and selection appropriate processes for
-
(i) rapid DNA/RNA extraction methods for various clinical and environmental samples and purposes (i.e. live genetic selection);

(ii) isothermal genetic amplification in several coupled techniques and improved shelf-life.
She received Internationalization Award from the Department of Bacteriology: Under Undergraduate Course Internationalization with Chulalongkorn University, from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2014; the Distinguished Young Scientist Award from Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, in 2015; the Distinguished Middle-Age Scientist Award from Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, in 2020; the Leaders in Innovation Fellowship (LIF) 2020/2021 by Newton Fund (UK) and Thailand; Angel Fund Thailand 2021; and many others.

She is a deputy director of Omics Sciences and Bioinformatics Center, a Head of Microbiome Research Unit at Chulalongkorn University, and a founder of Thailand Microbiome Education and Research Resources (ThaiMicrobiome.org).

To date, she has over 70 scientific publications internationally and nationally (with top 1% ranking journal and others mostly in Tier 1 and Q1), 3 book chapters, 28 patents and petty patents.
